Dodge Charger SRT (2006)

Overview:

The Dodge Charger, in its current incarnation, is a rear-wheel drive full-size automobile built by the DaimlerChrysler corporation for its North American Dodge brand. The Charger name is a historical one, borne by many other Dodge Charger models in the past; they have generally been performance models. Introduced in February 2005 for the 2006 model year, this new Charger shares the LX platform of the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Magnum; in fact, the interior of the Charger is almost identical to that of the Magnum. It replaced the Dodge Intrepid as Dodge's full-size sedan. This Charger is a four-door sedan, disappointing some fans of the previous two-door Chargers. The Charger SE and SXT are equipped with Chrysler's 3.5L V6. The 3.5L V6 produces 250 hp (186 kW) and 250 ft·lbf (339 N·m) of torque. The R/T version uses the 5.7L Hemi V8. This engine produces 340 hp (254 kW) and 390 ft·lbf (475 N·m) of torque. The SRT-8 model comes with the 6.1L Hemi V8. The 6.1L Hemi produces 425 hp (317 kW) and 420 ft·lbf (569 N·m) of torque.

Lexus IS-F (2008)

Overview:

The IS-F engine is mated to the world's first eight-speed direct sport-shift transmission. A new torque-converter lock-up control was developed that allows for a direct, crisp gear change through the constant lock-up of the torque converter in second through eighth gears. In Drive mode, the IS-F transmission performs with great smoothness, and the torque converter allows for great launch ability for fast standing-start acceleration that will register a zero-to-60 time in less than 4.9 seconds. This unique transmission also features an advanced Manual mode. A pair of paddles located within a fingertip's reach behind the steering wheel enables the driver to make ultra-fast up-shift gear changes within a tenth of a second. Downshifts are accompanied by automated and incredibly precise throttle blips to match engine RPM to vehicle speed. The impressive acceleration achieved by the IS-F requires it be equipped with heavy-duty Brembo brakes designed to the specifications of the Lexus engineering team. Huge, 14.2-inch cross-drilled front discs are gripped by rigid, powerful six-piston aluminum calipers, while 13.6-inch rear cross-drilled discs feature two-piston calipers. High-friction brake pads are equipped on all four wheels. The brakes are finished with the Lexus name displayed on the calipers, a first for a Lexus production vehicle. The IS-F features custom-designed 19-inch forged alloy wheels as standard. The wheels were built to Lexus specifications by BBS and are surrounded by high-performance sport tires.

Ford F-150 (2009)

Overview:

The 2009 Ford F-150 is redesigned, gaining power, passenger room, and numerous new features. A 248-hp 4.6-liter V8 replaces a 202-hp V6 as the base engine and comes with a 4-speed automatic transmission. A 292-hp version of the 4.6 and a 310-hp 5.4 V8 are also available, both matched to a 6-speed automatic. The 5.4-liter V8 produces 320 hp when running on E85 ethanol-blended fuel. Available are rear-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive that cannot be left engaged on dry pavement but includes low-range gearing for off-roading. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, front side airbags, and curtain side airbags. Three cab styles are again offered: regular cab, which deletes its former rear access doors; SuperCab extended cab, with rear-hinged back doors that don't open independently of the fronts; and SuperCrew crew cab, which has four conventional doors and gains six inches in length, mostly benefiting rear-seat legroom. Cargo beds include 5.5-, 6.5- and 8-foot Styleside beds and a 6.5-ft Flareside bed. Seven trim levels are offered: base XL, sporty STX, off-road-oriented FX4, midlevel XLT, uplevel King Ranch and Lariat, and new line-topping Platinum. Rumored for later in the 2009 model year is the Raptor, an off-road-oriented model powered by a 6.2-liter V8. Newly available features include a hideaway side step for access to the pickup bed, a tailgate step, a retractable cable lock to secure items in the bed, and a capless fuel filler. New electronic devices include Ford's Sync voice-activated cell phone and MP3 player control system, a voice-activated navigation system that includes real-time traffic information, a rearview camera, a built-in dashboard computer with available printer, a tool inventory system, and a vehicle tracking device for fleet users. Also new is an SFE (Superior Fuel Economy) package for 2WD models with the 292-hp 4.6 V8 and 6-speed automatic transmission. The package includes low-rolling-resistance tires and a different axle ratio for a 1-mpg increase in the EPA highway fuel economy rating. Maximum payload capacity is 3030 pounds on regular cabs, 2650 on SuperCabs, and 1760 on CrewCabs. Maximum towing capacity is 11,300 pounds on all models. A choice of three improved V8 engines are offered, all of which deliver better fuel economy. They include: a 5.4-liter, 3-valve Triton V8, 4.6-liter, 3-valve V8, and a 4.6-liter, 2-valve V8. Diesel and EcoBoost gas turbo direct injection engines are planned for F-150 in 2010 as well. Customers have a choice of four- and six-speed automatics.

Peugeot 908 RC (2006)

Overview:

The 908 RC is powered by Peugeot’s V12 HDi DPFS (diesel particulate filter system) diesel engine designed to take part in the “Le Mans Race Series” programme in 2007. The engine has a capacity of 5.5 litres and offers a level of performance unprecedented for a diesel engine, with a maximum power output greater than 515 kW and, above all, an exceptional torque in excess of 1,200 Nm. With a 100° V angle architecture, the engine’s centre of gravity is as low as possible. Two particulate filters are located at the end of each exhaust system ensuring the car’s environmentally-friendly credentials. The originality of the 908 RC resides in its compact design, with the engine arranged in a rear central transverse position. Similarly the compact 6-speed electronically controlled sequential gearbox, has been specially adapted to withstand the phenomenal torque, and is located under the engine. The position of the power train allows the creation of a large-capacity boot, situated behind the final drive assembly and therefore not encroaching on the generous interior space of the passenger compartment. This design also allows the driving position to be moved forward, maximising the driving experience for both the driver and the passengers. The car’s aerodynamics has been particularly fine-tuned to attain an excellent drag coefficient of only 0.556. The air ducts were designed in a wind tunnel to optimise the car’s performance and fuel consumption, while ensuring the necessary cooling of the power train. A two-part front air intake directs air to cool both of the engine’s radiators and also improve the car’s aerodynamic performance by controlling the internal and external flow by means of the black anodised aluminium vents located upstream of the front wheels.
